Suprapubic Hernia Surgery
A suprapubic hernia can be difficult to treat, primarily because of the scarring surrounding the incision and the fact that multiple incisions may come into play.
The actual procedure is similar to other hernia surgeries. Using minimally invasive surgical techniques, your surgeon will make small incisions to provide access to the hernia. Small instruments as well as a video camera are inserted through these openings, giving the surgeon a live view of the herniated area.
Using small instruments, the hernia sac is removed from the area. If the hernia is small, sutures will close it off. If it is large, the surgeon may use surgical mesh to reinforce and strengthen the area to help prevent the suprapubic hernia from recurring.
Because suprapubic hernias are difficult to treat, you want to make sure you are treated by a hernia specialist who is experienced with these types of hernias. At Celebration Colorectal, we have successfully treated this rare and occasionally painful form of hernia, using the latest techniques and the most proven treatments available.
