Suprapubic Hernia

A suprapubic hernia is a hernia that’s located close to the pubic bone. It occurs following a urologic or gynecologic procedure in which incisions have been made. The incisions weaken the surrounding tissue, allowing a hernia to form.

In some cases, the hernia can be minor and have no symptoms. However, a suprapubic hernia can also involve a large hole, creating serious health problems that are difficult to repair unless a skilled surgeon is brought in to treat it.

The only way suprapubic hernias can be prevented is to not have surgery in the region. Following surgery, there’s no way to prevent the hernias from forming and they may reoccur with time.

A suprapubic hernia is diagnosed using a complete medical history followed by a thorough physical examination. Other tests may be conducted to determine the presence and extent of the hernia before developing a course of action.
