Polyp Removal Surgery

In many cases colon polyps can be removed during a colonoscopy. Your surgeon will use a colonoscope to view the region, inserting it through the rectum and into the colon. If colon polyps are found, the surgeon will cut them off the inner wall of the colon using a cutting attachment placed on the colonoscope. In cases where larger polyps are found, a wire loop is used instead and the site where the polyp was removed is cauterized to prevent any bleeding

The procedure is relatively quick and painless. The only discomfort you will experience is the colonoscopy procedure itself. But a mild sedative given before the surgery helps you manage the discomfort you may experience.

Complications are rare, largely because the surgical team at Celebration Colorectal is extremely experienced in procedures to remove colon polyps. The entire procedure is fast, effective and is done on an outpatient basis. However, because a sedative has been administered, your doctor will request that someone come along with you to drive you home after the surgery.
