Hemorrhoid Surgery
The first line of treatment is changes in diet, good hygiene practices and medications applied topically. If these treatments do not provide long-term relief, surgery may be recommended.
During a hemorrhoidectomy your surgeon will make small incisions around the anus in order to cut away the hemorrhoids. A local anesthesia is used to numb the area and you’ll remain awake in the vast majority of hemorrhoidectomies. It is an outpatient procedure, so you’ll be able to go home the same day from the hospital.
The goal is to relieve the pain, swelling, bleeding and itching that can be caused by hemorrhoids. After surgery the anal region will be very sensitive, so you will need to take it easy until the area has had enough time to heal.
Another surgical option is a PPH, otherwise known as Procedure for Prolapse and Hemorrhoids. This is a minimally invasive procedure that uses a stapler-like device in order to cut off the blood supply and reposition the hemorrhoids. Deprived of blood, the hemorrhoids eventually shrivel up and die. Because the hemorrhoids are relocated farther up into the anus, pain is reduced. The major benefits of PPH are reduced pain, faster recovery and fewer complications.
Depending on your condition and the extent of your hemorrhoid problem, the colorectal experts at Celebration Colorectal may also look at using lasers to burn away the tissue, a rubber band ligation or schlerotherapy to deprive the hemorrhoid of its blood supply so it shrinks and dies.
The colorectal professionals at Celebration Colorectal will help you decide which procedure is best for you so that you can reduce the problems associated with hemorrhoids and lead a full, active life free of pain and discomfort.
