Anal Wart Treatment

Anal warts can disappear on their own without any treatment. If they don’t, your doctor will recommend non-surgical and surgical options to remove the warts. The type of procedure will depend on the number of warts, their size and location.

Initially, your doctor may apply a mild acid to each wart with a swab. This is often an effective method, though it may require several visits to ensure that all the warts have been destroyed. Freezing the warts with liquid nitrogen is another non-surgical option. If these methods don’t work, anal warts need to be removed by a skilled surgeon using electrical cauterization or laser surgery.

These procedures have the benefit of immediately removing the warts. Both are performed using a local anesthetic, the exact nature determined by the location and extent of the warts that are being treated. This is an outpatient procedure so you won’t need a hospital stay. In rare cases it may require multiple visits, if there are a large number of warts present. You should be able to return to work the next day. The pain and discomfort will decrease in a few days.

In most cases you will need to have the procedure done again. That’s because the warts can stay concealed in the underlying tissue and not appear again for another six months or even longer.

As new ones develop you will want to schedule a visit with your doctor at Celebration Coloretal to have them removed. Eventually, you will experience fewer incidences of the warts.
