Colorectal
Our colon and rectal surgeons are experts in the surgical and non-surgical treatment of colon and rectal problems. They have completed advanced training in the treatment of colon and rectal problems in additions to advanced training in general surgery. Our surgeons treat benign and malignant conditions, perform routine screening examinations and surgically treat problems when necessary. They have extensive experience in minimally invasive surgical techniques.
Benefits of minimally invasive surgery include, shorter hospital stay, less scaring and in most cases less post-operative pain. This approach also reduces the incidence of post-surgical complications, such as adhesions and wound infections.
Robotic surgery offers the same advantages to the patient as minimally invasive or laparoscopic surgery. However, this technology offers many advantages to the surgeon. A 3D camera is used which gives the surgeon a better, more real life image. By using the hand controls the surgeon can reach places in the body that are normally unreachable by the human hand. In addition, it allows the surgeon the ability to operate with more precision and dexterity.
The surgeon who has attained Certification by the American Board of Colon and Rectal Surgery (ABCRS) has specialized knowledge and skill with regard to problems of the colon, rectum, anus, and small bowel.
The American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS) is a professional association of 2,200 surgeons, many of whom specialize in the research, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the colon and rectum.
